How long companies take to reply after you apply
From the confirmation email to the first-round call: how long employers in India actually took to answer JobsEye's applications, with Barclays, Accenture and PwC as examples. 24 October 2026.
The short answer. The confirmation comes in seconds; the decision takes days to weeks. For JobsEye's applications on companies' own careers pages, the company's confirmation email came a median of 5 seconds after sending. The first interview or test from each company that called came anywhere from the same day to about three weeks later. Most applications got no reply at all.
What we measured
Applications sent through JobsEye on employers' own careers pages, 29 August to 20 October 2026:
| What came back | When |
|---|---|
| The company's confirmation email | 88% of applications; median 5 seconds, 9 in 10 within a minute |
| A written no | About 1 in 5 applications |
| The first interview or test, from each company that called | Same day, same day, 2.8, 4.2, 4.7, 4.9, 11.9 and 21.6 days after applying |
| Nothing | Most of the rest |
Three employers, three speeds
- Barclays was the fastest of every employer with 10+ JobsEye applications: it answered 97% of them, with a median of half a day. Its "Your application to Barclays" email is a decision not to progress, sent fast.
- Accenture sent its "How was your Accenture recruiting experience?" survey for about 2 in 5 applications, a median of 1.7 days after applying, before any decision.
- PwC sent its "Update Government IDs" task within a minute for about 19 in 20 applications: automatic, before anyone reads the application. Its "Progress update", a rejection, came a median of 2 days after.
What to do while you wait
- Keep applying. Waiting on one application is what makes a search slow.
- Answer a test invitation the same day; some come within hours.
- Check the employer's candidate home page for status, not only your inbox.
